Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about choosing, personalizing, and caring for your Atelier Lorelai heirloom.
About Our Christmas Stockings
What makes an Atelier Lorelai stocking different?
Each Atelier Lorelai stocking is handmade and personalized in our Arkansas studio using heirloom-quality fabrics, thoughtful construction, and detailed embroidery.
The stocking itself is designed to be the piece you keep. Hidden snaps allow you to add or change a bow or scalloped cuff over time without replacing the personalized stocking underneath.
Do I have to use a bow or cuff?
Not at all.
Every stocking is completely finished and beautiful enough to hang on its own. The snaps are discreetly placed so the stocking can be used with a bow, with a cuff, or with no accent at all.
That flexibility is intentional—you can keep it simple one year and change the look the next.
How do the interchangeable bows and cuffs work?
Small, discreet snaps are incorporated into the stocking construction. Bows and cuffs attach securely by hand and can be removed whenever you want to change the look.
There are no visible snaps or hardware when the stocking is hanging.
Can I change from a bow to a cuff later?
Yes. The personalized stocking is the foundation of the design, while bows and cuffs give you different ways to finish it.
You might choose tartan one Christmas, gingham another, or hang the stocking completely unadorned. Your stocking and its embroidery stay the same.
Can I buy additional bows or cuffs later?
Yes. Additional stocking accents are available separately, so you can add to your collection over time rather than purchasing another personalized stocking.
Can I use a bow or cuff on another child’s stocking?
Yes. That’s one of our favorite parts of the design.
A special cuff might begin on your first child’s stocking, then be used again for a younger sibling’s first Christmas. Years later, it could even become part of the next generation’s Christmas traditions.
Each child has a stocking personalized just for them, while the bows and cuffs can carry favorite family traditions from one stocking to another.
Fabrics & Personalization
What fabrics are available?
Cotton Piqué
Crisp, classic and softly textured. Cotton piqué has a timeless feel that works beautifully for both traditional Christmas colors and softer children's palettes.
Silk Dupioni
Elegant and softly lustrous, with the natural texture and variation characteristic of genuine silk. Our ivory silk stockings create a more formal, collected look on the mantel.
Both are fully lined and thoughtfully structured for an heirloom-quality finish.
Can I choose the embroidery?
Yes. Depending on the stocking, you can personalize it with a name or monogram and select from the embroidery fonts and thread colors shown on the product page.
Our cotton and silk collections have been given their own embroidery palettes so that the thread colors complement the fabric beautifully.
Will the bow or cuff cover the personalization?
No. The personalization is embroidered on the body of the stocking so that it remains part of the stocking itself.
Your name or monogram stays with the stocking even when you change the bow or cuff—or choose not to use one at all.
Can I order coordinating stockings for my whole family?
Absolutely.
You can keep the stockings identical or coordinate them through fabric, embroidery, bows and cuffs. Because the personalized stocking remains consistent, you can also add a new family member later without having to replace the stockings you already own.
As a small handmade studio, fabrics and accent designs may evolve over time, so we recommend ordering together when an exact match is important.
Ordering & Shipping
Are the stockings made to order?
Yes. Atelier Lorelai stockings are handmade and personalized specifically for your family.
Current production times are always listed on the product page and may vary during the holiday season.
When should I order for Christmas?
For 2026, please place Christmas stocking orders by November 1 for Christmas delivery.
Because each stocking is made to order and our production capacity is intentionally limited, Christmas orders may close earlier if the season fills.
Ordering early is always encouraged.
Do you ship internationally?
At this time, Atelier Lorelai ships within the United States only.
Can I change my personalization after ordering?
Please review names, initials, monogram order, fonts and thread colors carefully before placing your order.
If you notice an error, contact us as quickly as possible at hello@atelierlorelai.com. We are happy to make a change if production has not yet begun, but changes cannot be guaranteed once your piece is in production.
Can personalized items be returned?
Because our pieces are handmade and personalized specifically for you, personalized and made-to-order items are final sale.
If your order arrives damaged, differs from what you ordered, or contains an error made by Atelier Lorelai, please contact us within three days of delivery so we can make it right.
The Heirloom Guarantee
What is the Atelier Lorelai Heirloom Guarantee?
We make these pieces with the expectation that they will be used for years.
If your Atelier Lorelai heirloom needs cleaning or minor mending over time, we will clean, press and mend it for you at no charge for as long as you own it.
You are responsible only for shipping the piece to and from our studio. Contact us before sending an item so we can provide instructions.
What if a snap ever needs attention?
Contact us.
The interchangeable details are meant to be used, changed and enjoyed. If a snap or another part of the construction needs attention over time, we would much rather help you mend the piece than have you replace it.
Our Interchangeable Design
Is the interchangeable stocking design patented?
Certain Atelier Lorelai interchangeable textile designs are U.S. patent pending.
The idea is simple: the beautifully made, personalized piece stays, while the details around it can change.
